This blog on New Caledonia is for those of you who ever wondered what life on a tiny island in the South Pacific might be like. Tired of bracing winter winds, the stress of an inner city or simply dreaming of a life change? This is a blog about what happens when, in the words of Yogi Berra, "you come to a fork in the road, [and] take it".

  • Recommended Pastry Shops
  • Shopping For Home
  • Shopping For Clothes
  • Saving Money
  • Local Expressions
  • Useful Tips for Tropical Transformation
  • Creepy Crawlies and Other Tropical Delights
  • Poverty
  • Hobbies and Clubs
  • Places to Volunteer
  • Fun Places to Spend the Day
  • Vacations
  • Who Succeeds Abroad?
A 1997 Newcomer's Guide also exists, but this 2008 edition is a much-needed addition to the limited information you will find on living in New Caledonia (many thanks to Jo Ann for sharing this!).

Happy reading!

Nice to see you writing again.
I know how you feel.
Just keep up with your excellent work.
I am only glad that you have not left this beautiful country yet.
Well in mind that is.
This island never leaves you Julie.
You, numerous people and I know it.
Keep up with your Blog.
It's a delight and a privilege to read it.

Merci beaucoup " for the memories."
Or pour " les souvenirs," Julie.

Best wishes to you and to all the readers. Marc

Sorry to see you're not posting here any longer. I'd hoped when you returned to France you'd come back with something new...if not continue posting memories here.

I hope some day to find you in my Inbox again.

Perhaps you'll share the view from your window in France.

Hello everyone!

JoAnn, I have fixed the link to your guide, as requested. Thanks for keeping me (and us) up to date!

My heart is still very much in New Caledonia and I would be back there in a second! Anyone know of any jobs going? :)

And for those of you who want me to keep blogging, thanks for being so patient. As soon as I get some of my work off my desk, I hope to be writing again from Paris soon.

Kindest regards to everyone,

Julie
